That causes problems during cleaning. For example, keep half a metre on all sides so that you can easily clean there.

Believe it or not, there have been many discussions about it: do we put the rug all the way under the sofa or just a bit under the piece of furniture? Opinions can differ considerably on this, that much is clear. People often choose to place the rug a little below the sofa. Then you still use the full space of the rug, but you connect the pieces of furniture so that everything forms a whole. Also keep in mind that your rug will extend under both sides of the sofa. This creates a symmetrical look. Half a metre on each side is recommended. Otherwise, the rug only comes out a tiny bit from under the sofa, which doesn’t add that much.
