Underlay rugs: get rid of all those humps and bumps
Several things can happen when a rug starts sliding across a smooth floor. Either the whole rug slides away at once, or the rug “bulges up”. The sliding then creates a kind of air passage under the rug, which causes a lot of bumps and humps. An anti-slip underlay under the rug ensures a flatter result.
If a rug (without an anti-slip underlay) slides forward at once when you just walk on it, it can be quite dangerous; this is not surprising. Those humps and bumps caused by air can also cause considerable falls. You don’t notice them so easily if you don’t pay attention, and before you know it, your shoe gets caught behind them, and you’re on your snout.
Moreover, that bumpy surface on your carpet makes vacuuming a lot more difficult. A non-slip underlay ensures that any rug stays tight to the floor and does not create a path full of obstacles for your hoover. More on how best to maintain and clean your rug can be read here.
Anti-slip underlay against wear
Sometimes you don’t realise that your rug moves a little bit across the floor. But sliding even a millimetre back and forth regularly can cause wear and tear on your rug.
This is because with each “slide”, the fibres of your rug receive a small tap, causing the fibres to weaken. This affects the quality of the rug and also its colours. By placing an anti-slip underlay, the rug no longer slides back and forth and the fibres remain intact. So your rug will last a lot longer thanks to an anti-slip underlay!
Tip: If you like scuff marks, check out our vintage rugs. These rugs look like they have been around for a while, but are as good as new in quality.
The non-slip underlays for sale at Tapeso are free of harmful ingredients
and plasticisers. They are sold in different sizes and can also be cut to size, which is useful if you want to place one under a round rug. Our anti-slip underlays are also washable and can be also used if you have underfloor heating.
An anti-slip rug is not expensive to buy. You can easily lay it, invisibly, under any rug, whether it is a round rug made of jute, or rectangular rug made of wool. It’s an easy way to extend the life of your rug considerably and avoid dangerous slips and falls.
