Jute is known as the ‘golden fibre’ for rugs. The subtle shine only comes to the fore in the final production process where the rug is lightly burned. A subtle process because if this goes wrong you end up with a pile of ash. And that would be a shame after the hours-long process of weaving the rug by hand. A jute rug would lose its charm the moment you start weaving it with machines. After all, a jute rug is supposed to be tough & robust. The careful hand-weaving ensures that each rug looks the same but is not exactly the same. We have many more jute rugs. Oh… and you want to put it outside? Don’t! After all, jute cannot withstand water.
