Rugs from nature

A trend has emerged in recent years, with more and more sustainable materials being used in furniture pieces and home accessories. Even rugs can be made from natural materials. Autumn is an excellent time to take another look at your interiors and see what natural materials you can add to your home to make the living space look even more sustainable and natural.

Why rugs are also becoming more sustainable

Globally, there has been a trend for some time now, with people looking for more sustainable furniture pieces and home accessories. This has also caused the demand for natural rugs to rise again. Back in the day, all rugs and carpets were made of natural fabrics. Nowadays, people are again increasingly choosing to save the environment and nature.

Wool rugs

The most famous form of natural rugs is probably the wool rug. This wool rug used to be something almost everyone had in their home. Rugs made 100% of wool are usually made of sheep’s wool. Consequently, many homes in our country still have a sheep’s wool rug, as they are wonderfully warm, which is ideal in a cold winter.

New trend: jute rugs

Rugs made of fibre, so-called Jute rugs, are a trend to pull off a cool look in your home. Jute is a different type of fibre from sisal: it has a strong feel. The material gets a robust finish when the fibres are tied together. One similarity between sisal and jute: its abrasion resistance. A big disadvantage of a jute rug is its stain sensitivity: a stain in the rug will hardly come out. But for this, a stain protector + cleaning product is available in our shop.

Cotton rugs

A warm rug that lasts a long time can also be made of cotton. Cotton is also widely used in the textile industry. Cotton is with especially suitable to achieve a natural colour. You can also achieve the colour of a jute sack, for example. A ‘burlap sack colour’ fits ideally in an interior that needs some character.
