A jute rug for the home

Do you already have a jute rug in your home? If not, it’s time to seriously consider it. Jute is not just the trend of the last few years in home furnishings; it has been around for quite a few years, and we don’t see it disappearing anytime soon. Thanks to its neutral colour, this rug can be used in just about any living style.

But what is jute?

Jute is a plant bast fibre that comes from the “Corchorus”, a plant found mainly in warm and humid regions such as India, Bangladesh, and China. The bast fibres are stripped from the plant stems after soaking in water for a few weeks. Jute is one of the most common natural fibres. Cotton is just slightly more common, but jute is a close second. After the development of machine spinning, the use of jute increased even more. The raw threads which are spun are very strong. However, weaving rugs is something that is done more by hand.

What exactly is a jute rug?

As mentioned, raw and strong threads can be spun from the plant bast fibres. These threads are ideal for a rug, as it gets a lot of wear and tear in its life. Whereas other rugs excel in softness, it is precisely the rough and strong appearance (and inner appearance) that makes these jute rugs so popular.

Several sizes and shapes of jute rugs

A jute rug can take a beating and has a natural yet rugged look. Because jute is naturally slightly golden, it is also known as the “the golden fibre“. And you know what’s so cool? We have these “golden” rugs in all sorts of shapes and sizes. There is, of course, the rectangular one, perfect for the living room near the seating area. But there are also beautiful round jute rugs on our site. These round rugs come in different diameters.

If you are looking for a rug with bright and bold colours, jute is slightly less suitable. The original dark, slightly golden colour makes it difficult to dye the fabric in exact colours. Especially lighter colours are difficult to achieve. Fortunately, it is not impossible to dye jute and you can find various colours in addition to different shapes and sizes of jute rugs.

Environmentally conscious with jute

Did you know that with a jute rug in your home, you are also being environmentally aware? This is because the rugs are made of plant fibres and are therefore 100% natural. The impact on the environment is much lower than with other natural textiles. Moreover, jute is biodegradable, making it a good alternative to artificial fibres.

Good to know: you are guaranteed a fair jute rug! This is because we only work with parties that do not use child labour. You are not only environmentally aware but also responsible with our jute rugs.

Round jute rugs

There are jute rugs in different sizes, but did you know there are also round ones? The round shape looks great under a round dining or coffee table, for example. But a round rug also looks great under square or rectangular furniture, as it breaks up the straight lines and creates a more playful effect in your interior! So don’t focus on rectangular rugs, but also look at other shapes, such as round or oval jute rugs.

Buying a jute rug

Still hesitating about buying a jute rug? You can use a jute rug in many ways. Combined with rattan furniture and some nice green plants, you can instantly create a Bohemian atmosphere and imagine yourself in Ibiza. But with some metallic aspects in your interior, jute goes very well as industrial rug. It can also complete a cool industrial interior.

And did you know that you can easily combine jute rugs with other rugs? Consider combining it with a wool rug for a nice rustic look in the room. Wool is also a beautiful natural product. Or go for something special and combine a jute rug with a vintage rug.

To make sure the rugs don’t slide on a slippery surface, just add an anti-slip underlay when ordering. These, like jute rugs, are not that expensive and not only ensure that you don’t slip on a rug, but also that your jute rug will last longer.
