Now that you have bought your new rug, of course you want to enjoy it right away. You may have noticed that when you unroll it, it does not lie flat on the floor straight away. No need to panic, because with these handy tips you can get your rug flat again in no time!
Getting rug flat again? Roll it upside down!
The best way to get your rug flat again is to roll it up in the opposite direction. Then leave it rolled up for a while before laying the rug down flat on the floor. This is because it needs some time to bend back. After all, your new rug has been sitting rolled up in its packaging for a while. You will see that after following this tip, your rug will lay a lot flatter!
Tip #2: Put heavy objects on folds and curled corners
If the first tip has not quite had the desired effect, you can use heavy objects to get the creases out of your rug. For example, place a table, chair or other piece of furniture on the edges and/or raised corners. This tip works best if you leave your furniture for a long time. This is because it can take quite a while for the corners of your rug to lie nice and flat on the floor again.

Tip #3: Smooth out creases and raised edges of the rug
If there are still creases or wrinkles in your rug after the above two tips, you can use heat to flatten your rug again. Here, it is important to proceed carefully. First, set your iron or handheld steamer to the lowest humidity and heat setting. Never put the appliance directly on the rug but place a towel on the fold you want to treat. Gently stroke the towel and you will see that the fibres of the rug will naturally form flat. You can repeat this process until you achieve the desired result.
Note: This solution is not suitable for rugs that are not moisture-resistant, such as jute or viscose rugs. It is also a good idea to test the rug in an inconspicuous area first to avoid any damage. Tip #4: Use an anti slip rug underlay
To get your new rug flat again, you can use a anti slip rug underlay. You put this under your rug, and it sticks to both the floor and the underside of the rug. The underlay ensures that the rug adheres to the floor and lies nice and flat. This not only prevents the rug from shifting, but can also help you get your rug flat.
Do you think an anti slip rug underlay is too expensive, or can’t wait for it? Then you might consider using double-sided tape. The downside to this is that double-sided tape actually adheres too well. This may cause damage to your floor and rug. Of course, you don’t want this, which is why an under rug that is especially suitable for rugs is preferable.

Tip #5: Leave it on the floor for a while!
Patience is a virtue, and that goes for rugs too. In fact, your rug may take quite a while to lay flat. Once you start using the rug, you will walk on it and furniture may be placed on top of it. As a result, with time, the rug will flatten out again as it is meant to. Letting the rug rest for a while works wonders.
